How to Change a Tire Step by Step

So, how do you change a tire? Believe it or not, changing a tire is pretty straightforward, and you don’t have to be a licensed mechanic to know how to change it properly. No matter where you are around Toms River, you can change a tire as long as you have the proper tools:

Tools Needed to Change a Tire:

  • Jack
  • Lug Wrench
  • Spare/New Tire
  • Owner’s Manual

Once you have the proper tools, just follow these steps to change your tire and get back on the road:

  1. Move your car to the side of the road or a safe spot if you haven’t already.
  2. Make sure to put the parking brake on.
  3. Take off the wheel cover or hubcap from your tire by pulling it out.
  4. Once the wheel cover or hubcap is off, loosen the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
  5. Use the jack to raise your vehicle up so that the tire that needs to be changed is off the ground.
  6. Remove the lug nuts that you loosened earlier. Be sure to remove them by taking them off one at a time, with each lug you remove being diagonal from each other. For example, if you remove the top lug nug, make sure the next one you take off is the bottom tire that’s straight across from the top one you just removed.
  7. With the lug nuts off, take off the tire.
  8. Put the new or spare tire on the mount where your old tire was.
  9. Tighten up the lug nuts in the same way you removed them.
  10. Lower the jack until your car is touching the ground.

If you don’t have a new tire, your Honda should come with a spare tire in the back, underneath the flooring inside the trunk. If you’re having trouble finding your car’s spare tire, check your owner’s manual for more specific directions.

How Far Can You Drive on a Spare Tire?

When changing your tires, you’ll have to replace the tire with a spare tire if you don’t have a brand-new tire with you. Keep in mind that spare tires aren’t meant to be driven on for very long, and they’re just meant to help you get around Lakewood until you get a new tire. Spare tires shouldn’t be driven more than 50 miles, and it’s recommended that you should drive below 50 mph.

How Often to Change Your Car’s Tires

Not sure how often to change car tires? We can’t give you a specific answer as it depends on different things, like the specific Honda you drive. It also depends on how often you rotate your Honda car’s tires. The general recommendation is that you should change your tires about every six years or between every 35,000-75,000 miles.
