What is Premium Gasoline?

Regular and premium gas share similar qualities, like both being produced from crude oil and both being combustible. Where they vary is the octane level. Most premium gasoline has an octane level that’s 90 or above. Premium gas works to keep your engine cleaner, which leads to less pollution.

What is Regular Unleaded Gasoline?

This is the most common type of gas, which works great for most vehicles on the Freehold roads. Regular gas is excellent for the environment and your health. Regular gas has an octane level of 87, which indicates how well it combats inappropriate fuel combustion.

What’s The Difference Between Premium and Regular Gas?

These two options may seem similar, but some factors set them apart:

  • Octane Rating: The higher the octane level, the less chances of the engine knocking and damaging your vehicle. Pre-ignition is also less common with premium gasoline.
  • Engine Suitability: Regular unleaded gas burns faster than premium gas, making it a better option for engines with low compression ratios. Engines with high compression ratios will work better with premium gasoline.
  • Price: Premium gas can cost around 20 to 40 cents more per gallon than regular unleaded gas, which adds up if you have long commutes or do a lot of driving around the Toms River area.

Before choosing between premium vs. regular gas in the Jackson area, keep the following tips in mind:

  • If your car doesn’t need premium gas, then it won’t boost its longevity or performance.
  • If your vehicle requires premium gas, using regular gas won’t usually harm the vehicle. However, if you hear knocking when using regular unleaded gas, switch to premium gasoline.
  • It may be necessary to use premium gas in vehicles that use turbochargers.
