What Is Honda Sensing®?

Honda Sensing

All Honda vehicles are equipped with Honda Sensing®, a Honda-exclusive suite of intelligent safety technologies designed to help you see and sense more on the road in Lakewood. However, we’ve found that many drivers are unsure about the details. What is Honda Sensing®, and what’s special about the features included? Read the guide below for an overview of the Honda Sensing features — and reach out to our service center technicians if you have further questions!

What’s Included in the Honda Sensing® Package?

All Honda models come with a standard Honda Sensing® package, and you’ll find additional intelligent safety features on select models. When it comes to your Honda’s full range of safety features, what is Honda Sensing® best for? These “intelligent” features use computers and cameras to sense possible collisions, and make adjustments to avoid them if you aren’t able to do so in time.

Standard Honda Sensing® Features

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) — Applies the brakes to help stop the car if sensors indicate an imminent collision with a straight-ahead vehicle.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) — A small camera directed at the road shoulder detects road markings, and sends alerts if you start to drift.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) — Applies brakes to help you maintain your preset following distance.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) — If you drift over the lane marking despite RDM alerts, LKAS automatically adjusts steering back to the center of the lane.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) — Never miss a speed limit sign again: this feature uses a camera to detect and alert you to speed limit signs.

Additional Honda Sensing® Features

  • Honda LaneWatch™ — When you signal right, a camera on the passenger-side mirror automatically displays live video, expanding your passenger-side mirror view fourfold.
  • Blind Spot Information System — If you turn your signal on to change lanes but your LaneWatch™ camera registers a vehicle in your blind spot, the BSIS beeps a warning.
  • Cross Traffic Monitor — Alerts you to approaching vehicles as you back up.
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights — Automatically shifts between low and high beams depending on your surroundings.

Can You Turn Off Honda Sensing®?

Sometimes a specific driving situation means you need to override Honda Sensing monitors, so can you turn off Honda Sensing® features? This is a question that comes up often on the technical side! Fortunately, there are several ways to turn active safety features off and on.

Some features can be turned off with specific buttons on your dash display. For example, you can turn off RDM with a button located under ECON, and you can turn off LKS by holding the MAIN button on the steering wheel until the LKS instrument cluster indicators turn off. Check your owner manual for info on turning off any Honda Sensing® features, and feel free to contact Honda Universe Service for Honda Sensing technical help!

Alternatively, if your Honda model has the available central touchscreen, you can configure Honda Sensing® settings there. Navigate through the following screens: Settings > Vehicle Settings > Drive Assist Setup. From here you can turn features on and off, customize RDM and CMBS warnings, and more.
